Rare & Matured Bordeaux: Chateau Laville Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan 1975

Chateau Laville-Haut-Brion Blanc is one of the best dry whites in Bordeaux. With a tiny 3.7 hectares of vineyards mainly planted with Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, it is the only producer of white wine to be rated a classified Premier Cru in the 1953 classification of Graves. The estate was managed by Françoise Woltner and Francis DeWavrin in the 1970s and 1980s then the family sold the estates to the Dillon Family, owners of Chateau Haut Brion since 1935. It has been renamed to Chateau La Mission Haut Brion Blanc since 2009.

It's also a long-lived white with structured body and complexity, it is barrel fermented and is matured in 100% new oak for at least 15 months before release. We have just secured a case of Chateau Laville Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan 1975 which is worth the effort to seek out, finding more in the future might be just about impossible -

Medium-light golden hue. Interesting, earthy, mature nose keeps getting better and more exotic in the glass. Scents include ginger, orange, almond, marzipan, and sawdust. Powerful and spicy on entry although noticeably bitter. It’s a bit dried out in the mouth, but still has nice fruit, especially with aeration. Long almond, hazelnut finish. This was one of the most controversial wines with our 90 point score representing a compromise.
