Equal Score to DRC, only 8% of the price: Jayer-Gilles Echezeaux 2014 & 2015

I would argue for buying both if you can find them! (2014 & 2015 Jayer-Gilles Echezeaux du Dessus Grand Cru)” – Allen Meadows

Originated from the Jayer family in Vosne-Romanée, The domaine was founded in the 1950s by Robert Jayer and Robert’s wife Paulette. It’s located in Magny-lès-Villers near Nuits-Saint-Georges. The domaine passed to their son Gilles Jayer in 1998 who managed the domaine for almost two decades.

2014 and 2015 are successful vintages for Domaine Jayer-Gilles, both received decent scores from Burghound’s Allen Meadows who describes 2014 “most impressive” and 2015 “appears to be really good”. In addition, it appears to be a challenger of Domaine de la Romanee Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru 2014 which also received the same scores of 94pts from Allen Meadows, and nowadays asking for HK$30,183^ per bottle.

Just arrived in stock and fantastically priced, we are delighted to offer:

2014 Domaine Jayer-Gilles Echezeaux du Dessus Grand Cru
HK$2,500 per bottle (^Next Listing in HK: HK$3,000 per bottle)
94pts Allen Meadows
The wood treatment is evident but not dominant on the ultra-fresh aromas of plum, cassis, spice, tea and cinnamon. As is usually the case this is a powerful and impressively concentrated Ech with plenty of palate coating dry extract that helps to buffer the notably firm tannic spine shaping the robust but not rustic finale. This broad-shouldered and bold effort is going to require at least 7 to 8 years to be approachable and amply repay 15+. In two words, most impressive.

2015 Domaine Jayer-Gilles Echezeaux du Dessus Grand Cru
HK$2,600 per bottle (^Next Listing in HK: HK$2,950 per bottle)
92-94pts Allen Meadows
An exuberantly spicy nose displays notes of pepper, violet, sandalwood, plum and Asian-style tea. There is first-rate richness and concentration to the beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that deliver excellent depth and length on the sappy finale. As good as this appears to be, and it appears to be really good, the 2014 is likely to be even better. I would argue for buying both if you can find them!
