Domaine Hudelot Noellat is widely appreciated as one of the top producers in Burgundy and one of our favourite domaines in Vosne-Romanée. Alain Hudelot-Noellat founded the domaine in 1962 and managed until 2007, then Alain’s grandson Charles van Canneyt took over the ruin and continues to put Hudelot Noellat in a higher stage. They own vineyards spread across Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Clos Vougeot and Nuits-St-Georges, including also the most famous Grand Crus Romanée-St-Vivant and Richebourg. Without question, they are one of those domaines who are capable of producing fantastic wines from Grand Crus to Village wines. They aim to work "as close to nature as possible"; therefore, they do their best to reveal the most sincere character of their terroirs, with manually harvesting and sorting, 80% destemming, and using indigenous yeasts. Their wines are not clarified nor filtered, and are kept in oak barrels for 16 months in which only 20% are new barrels.
 
Hudelot-Noellat’s holdings in Romanee St Vivant are in some of the most prime locations within the Grand Cru boundaries, a tiny 0.48ha strip running uphill the length of the vineyard and along the edge of DRC’s. The vines were planted in the 1920s and maintained as a flagship wine of the domaine. It is one of the most refined and elegant wines but with majestic depth from Vosne-Romanee.

The '08 RSV displays a pure, highly spiced and expressive nose where the fruit runs more to the red side of the spectrum with hints of plum and violets that marry into refined, focused and precise medium full-bodied flavors that are utterly seductive as there is a beguiling succulence to the textured and gorgeously long finish that tightens up quickly as the ripe tannins make their presence felt. This will need time and it is a very impressive and stylish effort.
