Following up on our Jean Grivot offer earlier this week, we have just secured a small parcel of Echezeaux Grand Cru 2014 yesterday and it looks very appealing.
 
This is one of the stand out buys of the week, which received a massive 95 Points from Burghound’s Allen Meadows, just a point below Grivot’s flagship cuvee - Richebourg Grand Cru 2014. Putting it alongside Domaine de la Romanee Conti’s Echezeaux 2014, the Grivot’s Echezeaux is 1 point ahead of it and costs massively lower.

A super-fresh and spicy nose offers up a tantalizingly layered mix of ripe dark berries, sandalwood and exotic Asian-style tea aromas. The sleek, rich and beautifully detailed medium-bodied flavors that also coat the palate with an abundance of dry extract that simultaneously serves to buffer the very firm tannic spine that shapes the tight, compact and focused finale that demonstrates stunningly good length. Once again this is clearly going to need an extended stay in a cool cellar but it should be well worth the wait.

A spicier but even more restrained nose combines notes of red, blue and dark pinot fruit with those of rose petal, violet and sandalwood. This is quite ripe but there is a lovely sense of freshness and vivacity to the concentrated, muscular and superbly rich medium weight plus flavors that possess a highly seductive mouthfeel while delivering outstanding length on the powerful finish. This is firm but really quite refined and while it should age effortlessly it should also be approachable after only 7 to 8 years or so.
