Don't Miss! Arnaud et Sophie Vintage 2020 Selections

A very new domaine in Burgundy but not unfamiliar names, Arnaud et Sophie was established by husband-and-wife duo Arnaud Sirugue and Sophie Noëllat, both from celebrated Vosne-Romanée estates - Robert Sirugue and Michel Noëllat respectively. The first vintage produced was the 2016 and they made 2 cuvees: Bourgogne Passetougrain Rose which is made from Gamay and Pinot Noir grapes, and Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux which is made from grapes from their family plot that is situated along the border of the southern part of the famous Cros Parantoux 1er Cru and also on the very border to Petits Monts. In 2018, they started to produce another two cuvees, a Meursault Grands Charrons and a Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs, expanding the portfolio even further.

Their wines are made in a tiny cellar under Arnaud's grandfather's house so the quantities are extremely limited and it will be difficult to find if we missed their first release. Today we are pleased to offer the latest release of Vintage 2020 and worth to put down a few before they have been sold -

Tasting note from Steen Öhman Winehog.org:

Arnaud et Sophie AS Vosne-Romane Les Barreaux 2020
The 2020 Barreaux is showing fine balance and vibrancy. It’s floral, with good depth and focus. Made with 50% whole-cluster fruit and 30% new oak (with a slightly lighter toast), in general this has a more mineral drive than the two Sirigue wines (Vosne village and Vosne-Romanée village Vieilles Vignes). This has better detail and more precision, yet nevertheless struggles a bit vis a vis the generosity of the Sirugue VV, being perhaps a bit on the serious side.

Arnaud et Sophie AS Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs 2020
The Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs is an interesting new terroir for Arnaud and Sophie; the parcel is located on the slope in Gevrey towards Brochon, just below the 1er cru Champeaux. This has lovely depth and balance – 50% whole-cluster vinification helps significantly, and helps balance the oak, placing the wine between Vosne and Gevrey. This works very well with the 2020 vintage, as it gives more lively mid-palate fruit.

Arnaud et Sophie AS Meursault Les Grands Charrons 2020
Grands Charrons is an impressive Meursault terroir located at the core of the big villages terroirs. The exotic fruit is quite forward in this version, although without a very sharp definition of minerality. Even though the oak is not dominant, the mineral impression is somewhat subdued. I am a bit doubtful; this needs more tension, but let’s see after the elevage.

Arnaud et Sophie AS Bourgogne Passe-Tout-Grain Rose 2020
The Bourgogne Passetoutgrains Rosé is made in Gilly-lès-Cîteaux, and is pure and vivid with a fresh, clean mid-palate. Cooler than in previous vintages, this is showing lovely elegance and fragile pink roses; it’s delightfully enjoyable. Bottled as both Arnaud et Sophie and as Domaine Sirugue. Some like this (I certainly do).
