Being the capital of Burgundy wines, Beaune is located in the subregion of Côte de Beaune. A walled city with more than a half of the battlements, ramparts and the moat have been kept in a nice condition, the beautiful city remains its strong historical and ancient presence. As the centre of Burgundy wine business, the wine charity auction Hospices de Beaune hosted by the located wine producers each year since 1859, also plays a significant role as a measure in the recent pricing trends.
Beaune predominantly produces red wines from Pinot Noir, but due to the market’s increasing demand on Chardonnay wines, they also produce a small proportion of white wines, sharing around 20 per cent of the total output. Beaune also remains very high proportion of Premier Cru vineyards, with more than 40 climats being classified as Premier Cru and accounts to more than three-quarters of the total 420 hectares of vineyards
Their Red wines contain a striking and vivid colour, with a luminous scarlet, following the aromas of black and red fruits like blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry and gooseberry. There is a perfume of truffle, leather and spices when older, and appeals to the palate with the taste of crunchy fresh grape when young. It is firm, upright and juicy, which will evolve with a solid and convincing structure through time. On the other hand, the white wines show a silky gold colour, flecked with green. It contains a bouquet of almonds, dried fruits bracken and white flowers. It is amazing to enjoy its fruitiness when young, or later for its savoury mellowness.
