One of our longtime favourites, every tasting of Ponsot's wines have always left us smiling and yearning for more; and their innovations in bottling and packaging over the years have been truly admirable. Laurent Ponsot led the domaine to develop a remarkably unique style, giving them the distinctiveness among other top producers in Gevrey-Chambertin and their wines are brilliant from Grand Crus down to the Villages. With an average age of their vines being 50 years old combined with Laurent's expertise, Domaine Ponsot's wines are concentrated, powerful with hints of rich, exotic and spicy notes.

With Laurent Ponsot's decision to leave the family in early 2017, the Domaine is now solely run by Laurent's sister Rose-Marie Ponsot, seconded by Alexandre Abel, but everything else remains status quo with same barrels and high production standards, and the quality of their productions has proven to remain strong especially with their 2018 Clos de la Roche which was recently awarded with a massive 97pts by Allen Meadows who concluded his tasting saying, "In a word, brilliant". 
 
2018 is a massive successful for Domaine Ponsot and putting the Clos de la Roche Grand Cru with some eminent vintages such as 2009,2010 amd 2015, Vintage 2018 outscored the other vintages, in addition, at an approachable price to consider -

A brooding and almost grumpy nose only grudgingly gives up its aromas of poached plum, warm earth, smoked game and once again, plenty of spice nuances. The velvety and opulent big-bodied flavors brim with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a seductive mid-palate mouth but also serves to buffer the remarkably firm tannic spine shaping the powerful and hugely long finish where the only nit is a suggestion of warmth. This is a fantastic but seriously imposing wine with the structure to match so this is one to buy and forget you own it. In a word, brilliant.
