Despite being established in 1840, Domaine Forey did not start bottling their own wines until the joining of Regis Forey in the early 1980s. The Domaine owns vineyards in Vosne-Romanee as well as holdings in neighbouring villages, from Morey-St-Denis to Nuits-St-Georges. Among their 1.8 hectares of holdings in Vosne-Romanee, there is a 0.30ha parcel of Les Gaudichots 1er Cru which borders the world-famous La Tache Grand Cru. Due to its exceptional terroir being in close proximity to La Tache and its much lower price point, Les Gaudichots has gained a lot of attention in recent years. The vineyard's history is rather complicated having many owners over the years which each have fought to get ownership of the neighbouring La Tache, and in 1932, a compromise was found and some of the original Gaudichots vineyards was annexed to La Tache. Therefore, there are only three small sections of Les Gaudichots that remain, and are divided among six owners such as Domaine Forey and Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, but none possess more than a quarter of a hectare. Domaine Forey is the only one of the few owners that farms and bottles wines from this parcel. Some other producers that bottles wines from here are Marchand de Gramont, DRC (that uses the grapes for their Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru) and Dujac (that uses the grapes for their Malconsorts), hence Domaine Forey is the very few places where you can taste this particular Premier Cru that situates so closely to La Tache at a huge fraction of the price (less than 10% of a La Tache!). However, due to their size of ownership, production of this wine is extremely limited. 

That being said, we are extremely pleased to be able to secure a small parcel of the Vosne-Romanee Les Gaudichots 1er Cru from the 2017 vintage in magnum size bottles for your consideration today. The 2017 Forey  Gaudichots was scored with 92pts by Allen Meadows who commented that this " possess excellent delineation that carries over to the firm pure and tautly muscular finish" and also remarked as an “Outstanding” wine not to be missed. Expected to arrive in just 1 week, this is an opportunity to enjoy the fantastic terroir from Vosne Romanee.

92pts Allen Meadows "Outstanding" 

This is spicier still with its broad-ranging nose of red and dark pinot fruit, violet, Asian tea and dried orange peel hints, all of which is again trimmed by soft wood influence. There is a bit more minerality present on the vibrant and intense medium weight flavors that possess excellent delineation that carries over to the firm pure and tautly muscular finish. This youthfully austere effort is going to require at least moderate patience as it's on the compact side today.
