👨🌾🇺🇸 American Cult, Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 & 2018
Jul 31, 2026
The Scarecrow story begins in 1943, when MGM executive producer J.J. Cohn, the man behind The Wizard of Oz, bought a 195 acre property in Rutherford, next to what is now Inglenook. In 1945 he planted eighty acres of Cabernet Sauvignon there, though the estate remained mostly a family summer retreat for decades. When Francis Ford Coppola bought most of the land in 2002 from Cohn's grandson Bret Lopez, Lopez kept the estate buildings and just two acres of those original 1945 vines, some of Rutherford's oldest living Cabernet.
Lopez named the wine Scarecrow in tribute to his grandfather's most famous film, and released the first vintage in 2003: a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from that tiny, historic parcel. Production has stayed deliberately small ever since, and the wine is now considered one of Napa's true cult Cabernets, known for its density, structure, and pedigree, and available largely through allocation rather than open market. They have been awarded six perfect 100 scores in the past and are considered as one of the most difficult to source American wines.
Coming in 2-3 weeks time, we are delighted to offer some back vintages Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 and 2018 -
2018 Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon
HK$5,500 per bottle
98pts Wine Advocate
Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Scarecrow is deep garnet-purple in color, slipping slowly, measuredly out of the glass with sensuous notes of blackberry pie, blackcurrant pastilles and Morello cherries, leading to hints of raspberry leaves, oolong tea, cardamom and fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is chock-full of energy, delivering vivacious, mineral-sparked black fruit preserves flavors with a firm, grainy texture and a refreshing lift on the long, long finish. Simply gorgeous!
2015 Scarerow Cabernet Sauvignon
HK$5,380 per bottle
99pts Wine Advocate
Produced from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon leaps from the glass with gorgeous floral notes of red roses and lilacs over a core of black and red cherries, crushed black currants and baking spices plus hints of iron ore and dusty earth. The voluptuous, rounded, soft and sexy fruit slinks across the palate with incredible seamlessness and expression. Make no mistake, it is full-bodied and decadently powerful, but with a myriad of aromatic nuances, finishing long, layered and boldly perfumed.
Subject to final confirmation. ETA 3 weeks.
